Information About Health Insurance Exchanges
The Obama administration released information on the operation the insurance exchanges that will be implemented as part of the Affordable Healthcare Act. The federal government already operates an exchange for federal employees. They have two nationwide insurers on its exchange from whom federal employees purchase their insurance. There will be two nationwide insurers selected by the federal government available on all of the exchanges. States can operate the exchanges or they can let the federal government operate them. Insurers will be charged a 3.5% fee which gives them access to 30,000,000 additional customers. This will cut down on their marketing and advertising expenses. The exchanges are expected to be in operation by October, 2013.
