An Analysis Of Federal Spending In 2011

Governments raise money by taxation and they spend it.  Most people don't know where the money comes from and whether it is spent on things that contribute to their well being.  If they were better informed we would do a better job of running the government.  This article provides a detailed analysis of US government spending in 2011 (details for all of 2012 are not yet available).  Most the current debate in Congress is about a relatively small portion of government spending that we call non-defense discretionary spending.
