Brad DeLong is a fan of his colleague at Berkeley
but it he is less optimistic about ability of the the profession to adapt to the new economy and to benefit from some of the resources described by Eichengreen. His pessimism derives from his experience with graduate education in economic departments, which have not changed much at all. Most of the benefits from computer technology and access to big data will occur outside of the economics departments.
