Brad DeLong posted this response to Tyler Cowen's criticism of Tony Judt's widely acclaimed history of Post War Europe. Judt singled out Hayec's comparisons of socialism with National Socialism under Hitler for criticism.. Hayec beleived that they are both totalitarian and enemies of freedom. Hayec also believed that Social Democracy and American Liberalism provided a slippry slope to totalitarianism.
Its easy to understand Tyler Cowen's support for Hayec. American conservatives also believe that liberalism is a road to serfdom.
One of the comments to the post provides Hayec's criticism of conservatism as it usually is practiced in the US. Hayec was not a proponent of this form of conservativism.
