California has always been viewed as the state that projects the future for the US. Trends typically got started in California and that was a good thing. Today it looks like California is setting the trend for political gridlock. It has put rules in place that make it impossible to govern. The GOP would like to put similar rules in place at the national level. Their motivation is primarily political. They believe that it is the best way to run for election, and the country be damned. Ezra Klein, describes the crazy rules that make California ungovernable. The state is sacrificing its future in order to provide election talking points for Republicans. He hopes that this is not a trend that the nation will follow.
