David Brooks Leaves the GOP Reservation

link here to article

Its taken him a while, but the conservative op-ed writer for the NYT has finally concluded that the GOP is no longer the party that he has admired throughout his career. They have the Democrats over the barrel and the Democrats have been willing to give them 3 units for every unit of compromise that they have to make. They have decided not to take the deal. They are unwilling to do anything that will give the Democrats a reason to make the large cuts in spending that they have been offered. Tax increases of any kind have been taken off of the table

Brooks concludes that the crazies have taken over the party and that moderate voters will recognize their willingness to sacrifice the economy over the debt ceiling in order to stand firm on principles that only the tea party can love. Furthermore, Brooks claims that they will deserve the punishment that will get at the polls.
