An Analysis Of The Wisconsin Vote

This article examines the voting pattern in the Wisconsin recall election.  White males reliably vote republican, and women tend to vote democratic.  The white male margin in Wisconsin, was much larger than the woman margin in Wisconsin.  More voters describe themselves as conservative in Wisconsin than those that call themselves liberal (Even though David Brooks describes Wisconsin as a liberal state).  Given the white male and conservative to liberal margins in Wisconsin, democrats have to win big among moderates and independents.  That is where advertising plays a big role.  Advertising does not have much of an impact on voters with strong conservative or liberal convictions.  It can influence the votes of moderates and independents.  Walker outspent Barrett by a wide margin on advertising.  It paid off big time.  He won the majority of independent votes.
