Jeff Sachs' new book The Price of Civilization was criticized in the Wall Street Journal. The WSJ chose Paul Ryan to crique the book. The essence of Ryan's criticism is that the book is Anti-American. It can be called Anti_American because Ryan assumes his libertarian views are held by most Americans. Sachs argues that most Americans believe in the kind of mixed economy that he espouses in his book. That would make Ryan's views Anti-American despite being Pro-Tea Party.
Sachs calls the kind of America favored by Ryan a corporatocracy that has corrupted our democracy. The WSJ is the print advocate for the corporatocracy and Ryan's campaigns have been funded by it. When the banks needed to be rescued by government Ryan put his libertarian views aside. When government works to help ordinary Americans, Ryan puts on his libertarian free market hat and proposes to cut spending on important programs like Medicare in order to pay for tax cuts that benefit his sponsors. That is the way corporatocracy works. They purchase the politicians with campaign contributions, and their hired hands make sure that they receive more from government than they contribute in taxes.
