US Public Schools Are Not A Good Place For Boys

This is classic David Brooks.  He starts out with Shakespeare to give his op-ed an academic flavor and then he launches into a diatribe against the culture of the public schools.  According to Brooks the culture is not suitable for the Henry the 5ths of America.  It tries too hard to turn out men who play well with others.  Too many boys reject that culture and that is why girls do better in school than boys.  We need schools for boys that are more like military schools.  Its amazing how he knows so much about schools that he has not stepped foot in since he was a child  and in which he did well enough to get into the University of Chicago.  Its another example of the kind of research in which he specializes.  He just declares things to be true.

I was looking for the political point that he usually makes at the end of his articles, but it must be more subtle than usual.  I'm not sure whether it was just another rationale for school choice, and the privatization of public education, or whether he was just appealing to the GOP base of angry white men who vote for his favorite party.
