The US has been adding jobs in low paying industries. Around 40% of the jobs added
have been added to low paying retail areas like fast food. A smaller percent of new jobs (9%) have been added in professional areas that pay higher wages. Job growth in areas that provide middle class wages has actually been negative. The focus of government has been on helping out families with low paying jobs. If this trend continues, the nature of our society will change dramatically.
