This article describes how several US political scientists wrote nice things about Gaddafi before the rebellion. They were also paid consultants to Libya and connected with major US universities. They did not acknowledge their consulting relationship with the government in the articles that they wrote. These are not bad people but its too easy to get academics to do one's bidding through consulting contracts that are not disclosed.
