Problems in Japan Put US Energy Policy on Hold

The Obama administration views nuclear energy as an essential component of its energy policy. It has been able to put together a coalition of environmentalists and republicans to resume construction of nuclear plants. Its doubtful that this will happen until investigations of Japan's tragedy reveal more information about safety issues. The disaster in Japan shows how fragile energy policy is to unexpected events.
