State and Local Job Loss Continues

Declining tax revenues have caused states and local governments to shed hundreds of thousands of jobs. The federal government stimulus package helped states to maintain services during the long recovery but the stimulus has winded down and Congress wants to cut federal discretionary spending, which includes revenues sharing to states. The loss of government jobs may be good for conservatives in Congress but it will not be good for the economy.
